Cops: East Marion man who evaded capture faces multiple charges

An East Marion man who was spotted speeding in Southold Friday night  and who tried to evade police, first in his car and then on foot, was later charged with multiple vehicle and traffic violations, according to a report.

Police said an officer initially noticed the license plates on the white 2004 Nissan Maxima Ralph Mims III was driving didn’t match the registration. Mr. Mims was later spotted eastbound on the north road in Greenport and after making a quick turn off fled on foot. He was located nearby with the assistance of the town police department’s canine unit, police said.

Police said Mr. Mims explained that he ran because his driver’s license was suspended.

Southold Police reported arresting Mr. Mims on Front Street in Greenport on July 23 for driving with a suspended license and for driving while operating an electronic device.

He was released on bail for a future court appearance, police said.
