Robert G. Richmond of Lakewood, Calif., died of cancer at his home on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at the age of 64.
His parents, Robert W. and Helen Richmond, moved to Cutchogue when Bobby was 4 years old. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from Southold High School. While in the Navy, Bob served aboard the USS Frank E. Evans, which was involved in a collision with the Australian ship Melbourne. Seventy-four lives were lost. When discharged from the Navy, Bob went to work for the City of Long Beach, remaining there until his retirement.
Bob was a Long Islander at heart and made many trips back home through the years.
Bob is survived by his wife, Georgia; his mother and father; his sisters, Barbara (William) Kaelin, Patricia, Carole and Elaine; and three nieces, Michelle, Dawn and Melissa.
Family and friends gathered for a memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 1, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Burial, with full military honors, was at Cutchogue Cemetery.
