Cops: Three men stole 400 pounds of copper from Mattituck business

Three men face charges for stealing 400 pounds of copper from a Mattituck business last month, Southold Town Police said in a press release.

The three men then sold the metal, which was valued at more than $2,200, at a recycling center. The theft occurred at 3 a.m. on August 17, police said.

Peter Kleckowski, 52, of Sound Beach was arrested Tuesday and is being held for a Wednesday morning arraignment, police said.

Arrest warrants have been issued for two other suspects —William Smith, 32, of Rocky Point and Jeremy Sunderland, 26, of Holbrook — but neither man had been apprehended as of 7 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
