Greenport man honored for dedicated work at Peconic Landing

Darryl Volinski received a Long Term Care Employee of Distinction award from LeadingAge New York.

Darryl Volinski of Greenport was honored as the Long Island recipient of a Long Term Care Employee of Distinction award from LeadingAge New York, which represents more than 600 not-for-profit, mission-driven and public continuing care providers throughout the state.

Mr. Volinski, who is the director of environmental services at Peconic Landing, has spent 29 years as a member of the Greenport Fire Department, serving as an EMT and formerly as chief and a member of the board of wardens. He was nominated for the award by Robert Syron, the president and CEO of Peconic Landing.

“Since Darryl started here five years ago, he has embodied our core values of integrity, joy, distinction, pride, collaboration and commitment,” Mr. Syron said. “He has implemented systems and technologies that have increased staff morale, efficiency, resident satisfaction and safety.”

Mr. Volinski implemented the continuing care facility’s personal response system at Peconic Landing, certified all security personnel with New York state, has installed video surveillance and has provided CPR and first aid training to all security and nursing staff, among his accomplishments at Peconic Landing. He also coordinated the naming of Peconic Landing as the evacuation site for Southold town and is a founder of Peconic Landing’s May Mile and 5K event, which has raised more than $100,000 for the Greenport Fire Department in the past six years.

Mr. Syron said Mr. Volinski has “set such a high standard in all that he does, that it is difficult to differentiate what he always does and what constitutes ‘above and beyond.’ Residents and staff at all levels respect Darryl and know they are secure in their home and workplace.”
