Cops: Unlicensed driver struck hydrant, fled scene

A Cutchogue teenager was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident Friday morning after he struck a fire hydrant and several trees on Nassau Point Road, Southold Town police said in a press release issued Monday.

Luke Mastrorocco, 18, was driving westbound on the Cutchogue street at about 9 a.m. when he lost control of his 1997 Lincoln and struck a fire hydrant and trees before fleeing the scene, police said.

Mr. Mastrorocco returned to the scene about 45 minutes later and was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, as well as for being an unlicensed driver in an uninspected vehicle, according to a police report.
