William J. Kart

William J. Kart, a lifelong Greenport resident, died Nov. 1 at his home. He was 63.

He was born Feb. 19, 1949, at Eastern Long Island Hospital to Edward and Benedicta (Binkis) Kart. He graduated from Greenport High School and worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 24 years.

He married Joan Thompson of Southold at St. Patrick R.C. Church on April 7, 1973.

Mr. Kart enjoyed outdoor life, fishing and hunting and was a member of the East Marion Gun Club. He also enjoyed his family and friends and being a handyman.

Predeceased by his brother, Carl, his sister Charlotte and his daughter, Cynthia, Mr. Kart is survived by his wife; his sons, Billy Jr., of Greenport, and Daniel, of Shirley; his sisters Kathy, of Cutchogue, Barbara Haggerty of Greenport, Nancy Capobianco of Peconic, Susan Long of Maine, Carol Standish of Pennsylvania, Peggy Dow of Florida and Patti Cochran of Nebraska; and six granddaughters: Courtney and Dominique (Nikki) Kart of Greenport, Carli Jean and Jillian Rose Smith of Shirley and Cassidy Shea Hughes and Danilynn Kart, also of Shirley; and a brother-in-law, Richie Dambrosio of Greenport.

Visiting hours will take place Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Tom Murray at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, with burial at St. Agnes Cemetery.
