Greenport man arrested after North Road police chase

An 18-year-old Greenport man faces multiple charges following his arrest Thursday afternoon after he reportedly lead police on a chase along Route 48.

Police said officers attempted to stop Cody Clifford for speeding on his motorcycle, but instead he lead them on a four-mile chase at speeds approaching 80 mph. Police reported finding him stopped on the side of the road in Peconic and arrested him at 3:45 p.m.

Mr. Clifford was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, speeding, aggravated unlicensed operation and driving on the sidewalk, according to reports.

He was taken into custody and brought to police headquarters for processing, police said.
