Greenport board to discuss electric transmission contracts tonight
Greenport utilities director Jack Naylor is expected to discuss the village’s long-term electric transmission contract options at tonight’s Village Board work session.
The village’s contract with the New York Power Authority to transmit hydropower generated from Niagara Falls expires next month.
The village has until Dec. 14 to decide on either purchasing transmission rights with a fixed cost or at a market-driven price.
In addition to the electric transmission contract, Mr. Naylor is also likely to update the Village Board about reported damage at the light plant.
According to Mr. Naylor’s report, “the plant experienced equipment failures with an interior 480-volt transformer failing, which also damaged the battery system.”
He said the village is in the process of determining cost repairs and federal reimbursement eligibility.
The meeting at the Third Street firehouse begins at 6 p.m.
