The Christmas season officially began in Cutchogue Saturday morning when Santa Claus arrived via helicopter to greet the dozens of kids and their parents awaiting his appearance in the field opposite the fire station.

Although visibility was limited due to the fog, Santa in his bright red suit could easily be spotted in the passenger seat of the helicopter as it made a circle around the field before landing.

After greeting the children, Santa hopped aboard a fire truck for his trip to the library, where children were invited to sit on his lap for a picture.

Santa’s visit was sponsored by the Cutchogue Fire Department, the CFD Ladies Auxiliary and the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.
