A team of volunteers led by members of the East Marion Fire Department took to the Dam Pond Preserve Saturday to clean out whatever discarded rubbish they could lay their hands on.

By the time they finished, the trash they collected made a pile five feet per side and three feet high “and made a very noticeable difference,” said Chief Frank Thorp. “We even got a tire out of there.”

A crew of 11 people gave up part of their weekend for the cleanup.
