Southold falls 60-44 against Bridgehampton

KILLER BEES 60, FIRST SETTLERS 44

Southold dug itself too deep of a first-quarter hole to climb out of as the First Settlers lost at home to Bridgehampton, 60-44, in a League VIII boys basketball game Monday night.

The First Settlers (1-3, 0-2) grabbed a 4-2 advantage before the Killer Bees (1-3, 1-3) rattled off 17 unanswered points to take a 19-4 lead at the end of the quarter.

Freshman forward Joshua Lamison scored nine of his game-high 21 points during the period. Freshman guard Tylik Furman added 19 points and senior forward Jason Hopson contributed 17.

Southold closed the deficit to within nine points at 25-16 with 3:09 remaining in the first half, but could never get any closer.

Sophomore Alex Poliwoda came off the bench to lead the First Settlers with 12 points, adding a team-high six rebounds. Senior forward David O’Day added eight points.

Southold next plays at Ross on Wednesday at 6:15 p.m.
