Cops: Florida man crashes on Main Road

A Florida man was arrested Saturday after he crashed his car up against the foundation of the Southold Fish Market, Southold Town Police said.

Michael Zervos, 46, of Holiday, Fla. was driving his 2006 Toyota eastbound on Main Road in Greenport when he failed to negotiate a curb, struck a road sign and utility pole, continued a short distance into a guard rail, and was spun around into a westbound direction and struck the building, police said.

He was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital for medical evaluation. After being discharged from the hospital, he was transported to Southold Police Headquarters, where he was held for a Sunday morning arraignment, police said.

Main Road was closed for several hours as workers repaired the utility pole, police said.
