Violet Augusta Ciampoli

Violet (Vi) Augusta Ciampoli died on New Year’s Day at Peconic Landing in Greenport, N.Y. She was 91 years old.

Vi was born in Boston, Mass., on July 19, 1921. Violet was a beautiful woman and had an incredibly colorful life. She was a synchronized swimmer with Esther Williams, danced with celebrities of her era like Frank Sinatra and, when World War II started, became a welding “foreman” at the Charlestown Naval Shipyards. She loved fashion and her career at Filene’s Department Store in Boston. Most of all, she cherished cooking for a crowd and being surrounded by her family.

She lived in the Boston area for most of her life, spending 40 years in Revere, Mass. Vi was a devoted wife and mother. She had four children, eight grandchildren, 16 great-grand children and seven great-great grandchildren. In 2003 she moved to Peconic Landing on the East End of Long Island. She was the first resident of its new assisted care facility. She enjoyed the North Fork so much and, being near the ocean, it reminded her of her New England roots.

Vi is survived by her children, Christopher Augusta of Peconic, N.Y., Nancy Cox of Miami, Fla., and Anthony Augusta of Malden, Mass., and their families. Her entire family celebrates her life and cherishes each and every memory with her.

Per her wishes, Vi is resting at the Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, Mass. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, at St. Patrick Church in Southold, N.Y.
