Otto S. Sinramm

Otto S. Sinramm of Southold died Jan. 16, 2013, after a brief illness complicated by M.S.

Otto, also known as “Chip,” was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was 70 years young.

He enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1959 to 1963. Upon his honorable discharge, he enjoyed a 12-year career with Eastern Airlines.

In order to once again reside on the East End and be near his beloved boyhood home (Hampton Bays), he pursued a career as a police officer. In 1971 he joined the Nassau County Police Department and subsequently, Suffolk County Police Department, retiring after 20 years of service. He often fondly recalled the dedicated men he met during his law enforcement career.

“Chip” always enjoyed being on the water and especially being a bayman, as he scalloped and clammed for many years.

In 1968 he met his wife, Joan, while summering on Dune Road in Quogue.

Otto was a voracious reader as well as an avid history buff. He also relished observing our country’s political scene.

Otto will be fondly remembered by both friends and family as a raconteur who possessed great intelligence and was renown for his quick, dry wit and repartee.

This very good man will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered always. He is truly unforgettable.

Graveside services will be held in the spring at Calverton National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Homes.
