ELIH in ‘dire need’ of blood donations
Eastern Long Island Hospital has declared a blood shortage emergency and is in “dire need of blood donations,” according to the hospital.
The hospital will hold a blood drive Thursday, Feb. 7, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the conference room. For an appointment, call 477-5100, but walk-ins are also welcome.
Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and have not donated blood in the previous 59 days. Anyone who had a tattoo during the past 12 months cannot donate blood.
Those 16 years old must have parental consent and the permission form can be downloaded from nybloodcenter.org/16. Anyone 76 and over must have a doctor’s note.
Bring identification with a signature or a photo.
The hospital suggests potential donors eat well with low fat foods and drink fluids beforehand.
