Cops: Man punched two in limo at Vineyard 48

PAUL SQUIRE PHOTO | A man allegedly punched two people in a limo at Vineyard 48 this weekend, police said.

PAUL SQUIRE FILE PHOTO | Vineyard 48 was the site of an arrest Saturday afternoon.

A North Babylon man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he punched two people in the face in a limousine parked outside Vineyard 48 in Cutchogue, Southold Town police said.

Christopher Schaeffner, 23, was in a limousine outside the vineyard with several other people about 2:40 p.m. when he stepped on a young woman’s foot, according to a police report. The woman asked him to apologize but Mr. Schaeffner became angry, hit the woman in the jaw with the hard cast on his arm and pushed her onto the floor of the limousine, according to the police report.

Another man in the limo tried to break up the fight but Mr. Schaeffner punched him in the face too, police said. The fight was eventually broken up and the woman called police.

Southold police arrived at the scene and interviewed the people in the limousine. One of the officers noticed that as Mr. Schaeffner was walking to the police officer’s car, he threw a white pill onto the ground. Police collected the discarded pill as evidence.

The female victim filed a civilian arrest report against Mr. Schaeffner at the scene, but the man who was punched declined to press charges at the time, police said. Mr. Schaeffner was placed under arrest and charged with second-degree harassment.

He was transported to police headquarters for processing and held until he became sober and could post bail. The white pill collected at the scene was sent to the Suffolk County Crime Lab for analysis.
