Robert X. Snider

Robert X. Snider died Feb. 6 at Peconic Landing in Greenport, where he had resided for five and a half years. He was 89 years old.

Born Dec. 27, 1923, in New York City to George E. and Mary (Shurr) Snider, he earned a degree in economics, money and banking from Fordham University and an M.B.A. from Hofstra University. He married his fiancée, Muriel, on Sept. 8, 1950, at United Methodist Church of Floral Park. 

Mr. Snider served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, as a pharmacist’s mate 2nd class aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, and in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal 3 Stars. 

He worked as a computer analyst at Sperry Gyroscope in Lake Success, N.Y., for 32 years. He had been president of the Lions Club, a member of the Elks and Rotary clubs, chairman of the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and vice chairman of Sperry Associates Federal Credit Union.

Family members said he enjoyed fishing, reading, football, boating and cruising. 

Mr. Snider is survived by his wife, Muriel; his son, Bob, of Northport; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

A memorial service will take place Sunday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. at the Peconic Landing auditorium in Greenport, pastors Tom LaMothe and Bob Snider officiating. Private interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
