The North Fork saw up to two inches of snow Wednesday night in the latest winter storm of 2013, and a winter weather advisory remains in effect for the morning commute Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow will continue to pile up on the East End in “narrow southwest to northeast bands” across the area, National Weather Service forecasts show. Wednesday night’s total snowfall was on the lower end of the forecast for the area, weather officials said.

Light snow will alternate with rain throughout the day and heavier wet snow will begin Thursday evening, forecasts show, with up to 6 inches added to the snow totals overnight.

Weather officials warn that roadways may become dangerous at night as the rain turns back into wet snow.
