Madeline S. Haas

Madeline S. Haas of Mattituck died at the home of her daughter on March 14, 2013. She was 83 years old.

She was born in Riverhead on Dec. 13, 1929, to Carl and Eleanor (Hasslinger) Stelzer. Educated in Laurel, she married Frederick E. Haas Sr. on Nov. 1, 1953.

A lifelong resident of the North Fork, she had been a secretary for the Mattituck-Cutchogue UFSD and the law office of Wickham, Wickham & Bressler.

In the community, she was a member of the Mattituck Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church. She had also been a secretary for the Mattituck Park District.

Predeceased by her husband, Frederick E. Haas Sr., she leaves her children: David F. Haas, Timothy A. Haas and Elizabeth M. Ficner, all of Mattituck, and Frederick E. Haas Jr. of Cutchogue; a brother, Carl E. Stelzer of Mattituck; grandchildren Brian, Jason, Erick, Kristen, Kaitlyn, Robert, Steven, Chelsea, Courtney, Anthony, William, Danielle and Shaylyn; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a son, Mark T. Haas, and a brother, Frederick Stelzer.

The family received friends Sunday, March 17, at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, March 18, at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church by Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt, with the assistance of the Ministry of Consolation. Interment was at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery.
