Two people were taken to an area hospital Friday afternoon after what Mattituck Fire department officials called a “peculiar accident.”

A silver Chrysler PT Cruiser and a red Dodge Magnum collided as both vehicles turned into the entrance of Mattituck Family Medical Center on Main Road, fire officials said. Both vehicles were heading in the same direction — eastbound.

Southold police and the Mattituck Fire Department Rescue Squad responded to the scene about 2 p.m.

The driver and a passenger from the Dodge were taken by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center, according to Vincent Tirelli, fire department first assistant chief.

The driver of the Chrysler reported no injuries.
