Frieda C. Charters

Frieda C. Charters, 74, of Effingham, Ill., passed away March 19, 2013, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill.

Frieda was born Jan. 11, 1939, in Jasper County, Ill., to Lorne and Mary (Klingler) Fehrenbacher. She graduated from Newton High School and married James T. (Jim) Charters Sr. on June 9, 1962. Last year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Frieda was a homemaker and a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and she loved every minute that she could spend with her six grandsons.

Frieda is survived by her husband, Jim, of Effingham; her son, Jim Jr. (Melissa), of Effingham; her daughters, Kathy (Larry) Apke of Teutopolis, Ill., and Cindy (Tim) Mahnesmith of Troy, Ill.; her brothers Dale Fehrenbacher of Rocky Mount, Mo., and Max (Bonnie) Fehrenbacher of Blaine, Minn.; her sisters Rita Massmann of Rotterdam, N.Y., and Kathy Fehrenbacher of Effingham; six grandchildren, Stephen and Drew Apke of Teutopolis, John Charters of Greenup, Clint Charters of Effingham, and AJ and Lane Mahnesmith of Troy.

Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Larry; her sister Madeline Kaufman; and her great-grandson, Wade.

Visiting hours took place March 22 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. A funeral Mass was held March 23 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, followed by interment at St. Anthony Cemetery, both in Effingham.
