If you’re out and about at the tip of the North Fork Tuesday morning and see a knot of military vessels near Plum Island fear not, there’s no invasion or other emergency. It’s all just a drill.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will be working with the East End Marine Task Force, the Department of Homeland Security, the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army on a hazmat training drill on both land and water.

The drill will involve vessels and aircraft near Plum Island and Orient Point simulating the containment of hazardous materials on a vessel near Plum Gut, the waterway separating the island from Orient Point.

The training exercise will run from 9 a.m. to noon.
