Downed wires, outages in Cutchogue-New Suffolk area

About 80 power outages were reported in the Cutchogue-New Suffolk area Monday morning, where there were reports of downed live wires in the area.

A portion of New Suffolk Road is closed due to a downed wire at the New Suffolk Shipyard. Cutchogue fire officials have been at the scene there since about 10:30 a.m. The road is not expect to fully reopen until after noon.

Cutchogue fire chief Tony Berkoski said the wire broke off the insulator and LIPA will continue to monitor the situation and to trim branches near where the wire fell.

LIPA had initially reported 37 outages in the area, but that number quickly grew to 80. The utility is currently estimating that power will be restored by 3 p.m.
