Greenport man facing drug charge

East Marion man arrested on drunk driving charges, March 25, 2013

Police pulled over a Greenport man on Route 48 in Cutchogue last Wednesday evening for a minor traffic violation and discovered not only was he driving without a license, he was in possession of two crack pipes and an amount of cocaine, Southold Town police said.

Jason Mealy, 36, was arrested for driving without a license and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree.

Police said passenger Vaughn Edwards, 46, of Greenport, was found to be in possession of $12,651 in cash, which police said they believe to be the proceeds from a prior drug transaction.

Mr. Edwards was ticketed for having an open container of beer in the car, police said.

Mr. Mealy has a recent history of arrests in Southold Town, according to previously published reports. In 2011, he was arrested for stealing a car  from a home in East Marion. He was also arrested on a weapons charge during that incident. In December, he was arrested for stealing a donations jar from a local 7-Eleven.
