Air Quality Alert issued for Suffolk through 11 p.m.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an air quality health advisory for all of Long Island Tuesday.

The alert will remain in effect between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Ground level ozone is forecasted to hit levels that may be unhealthy for sensitive groups, like individuals with lung disease, children, older adults, and people who are active outdoors.

The Environmental Protection Agency says that high levels of ozone can make it more difficult to breathe, cause coughing, aggravate diseases like asthma, emphysema or bronchitis, and make the lungs more susceptible to infection.

The New York State Department of Health has warned residents to limit strenuous physical activity when pollutions levels are high.
