Southold cop, two others injured in crash

A Southold Town police officer and two others were taken to an area hospital following a Friday afternoon car accident, Southold Town Police said.

Southold Detective Kennth Richert was driving an unmarked police car when he was struck heading westbound at the intersection of Route 25 and Maple Lane in Peconic, police said.

The vehicle operated by Peter Newman failed to yield the right of way and entered the roadway hitting Mr. Richert’s vehicle, police said.

Mr. Richert, Mr. Newman and William Bowie were all transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries, according to police. Newman was issued a summons for failing to yield right of way at an intersection, police said.
