A Southold man police described as “highly intoxicated” was arrested Sunday night in Greenport after trespassing aboard a 55-foot yacht, assaulting a person on board and striking an officer called to investigate, police said.

Michael Doroski, 23, was found aboard the vessel docked at Mitchell Park Marina around midnight, police said. When asked to leave, Mr. Doroski started arguing with the occupant and then struck him, said police.

When police arrived, Mr. Doroski was highly uncooperative and struck the arresting officer, according to a report.

Neighboring boaters were shocked upon learning of the incident Monday morning.

“Things seemed really quiet,” said Stan Sommers, of Huntington, who was docked at Mitchell Park Marina at the time of the attack. Mr. Sommers is a frequent visitor of the marina and has been docking his boat in Greenport harbor for eight years.

“Boaters don’t usually have to worry about break-ins,” he said. “There is a lot of trust among the boating community, so it’s disheartening when something like this happens. I wouldn’t let it stop me from coming back to Greenport. We’ll just be more mindful.”

Mr. Doroski was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespassing and two counts of harassment, police said.
