A Cutchogue woman was arrested on criminal possession of a weapon and menacing charges Thursday morning after she lunged at a Southold Town police officer while holding a large knife, according to police.

The police offered the following account of the incident:

An officer on patrol stopped to check the well being of a woman, later identified as Nancy Wickham, walking along Main Road in Cutchogue when an area resident approached him and said the woman was in possession of a large knife and acting in an erratic manner.

As the officer was interviewing Ms. Wickham she pointed the knife at him and lunged at him several times. The officer subdued her and took her into custody.
