Attention all Greenport High School graduates: Dust off your yearbook, clear your calendar for July 19, 2014, and plan to mingle with fellow Porters at the second biannual all-class reunion.

Although the event is a year away, organizers have started planning for the celebration, which will again take place along the water at Fifth Street Park. The free event is open to all Greenport graduates and their families.

Event organizer Tom Krumenacker, Class of ’82, has said he decided to put on the event after he found out no one was planning his 30th class reunion in 2012.

He said more than 500 people attended the first all-class reunion and estimates about 850 people will be on hand next summer.

“A lot of people that couldn’t make it last year are planning to go,” he said. “It’s going to be big.”

As many rekindled friendships at last year’s gathering, others enjoyed swimming, free food and games like horseshoes and volleyball. Balloons and purple and yellow streamers draped across trees adorned the park.

Organizers are planning to sell purple and gold T-shirts, caps, mugs and other promotional items commemorating the “GHS 2014 All-Class Reunion.” Proceeds will go to the Greenport School District. Last year’s reunion raised about $2,500 for the school, Mr. Krumenacker said.

Some new things in the works for the next reunion include a DJ and more bands, as well as a chinese auction.

Mr. Krumenacker said he and the event’s planning committee are looking for volunteers to help with certain tasks on the day of the reunion and donations from local businesses.
