Four people, including two young children, were hospitalized after their SUV flipped over on Main Road in Laurel Tuesday afternoon, Southold Town police said.

None of the injuries were serious, police and Mattituck fire officials said.

The SUV was headed west on Main Road about 12:30 p.m. near the train bridge between Aldrich Lane and Laurel Lake Drive when the driver tried to pass a vehicle on the right, police at the scene said. But the SUV struck a speed-limit sign on the side of the road and flipped onto its side, police said.

Mattituck firefighters got to the scene as police closed Main Road in both directions between Aldrich Lane and Bay Avenue. The two adults in the car — a man and a woman — along with the two children inside were pulled from the SUV.

The woman suffered minor injuries while the man and children were evaluated as a precaution. All four were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment, police said.
