Motorcyclist seriously injured in Mattituck crash

Update: Police have identified the man seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in Mattituck Sunday evening as 33-year-old Michael Lourine of Farmingville.

Mr. Lourine was heading west on Main Road at 5:50 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road, struck a curb and was ejected from the 2006 Kawasaki he was operating, Southold Town police said.

He struck his head on a utility pole and was then taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Police are still investigating.

Several online reports indicate Mr. Lourine to be a New York City firefighter.

Original story: A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Mattituck Sunday evening, Southold Town police said.

The biker, whose name was not immediately available from police, was heading west on Main Road about 6 p.m. when he lost control of the bike and crashed along a curve in the road just west of Love Lane. police said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The road had been closed to traffic for an investigation but was open as of 8 p.m.

Officials said they would be releasing more information later.
