Former Greenport resident Kassi Richel Lewis Yoskovich of Medora, Ind., died Aug. 16 as a result of injuries sustained in a hit-and-run accident. She was 16 years old.
Kassi was born March 11, 1997, and lived in Greenport until she moved to Indiana in 2007. She was a sophomore at Medora High School, where she was a cheerleader and played on the volleyball team. Family members said she loved drawing, fishing with her dad in the East Fork White River and hanging out with her classmates. Kassi had a big, beautiful smile, they said, and was a protector, always standing up for the rights of others.
Kassi was predeceased by her mother, Cherie Lewis, on Sept. 13, 2003; her grandparents, Nancy and Harry Lewis; and her grandfather, Stephen Yoskovich Sr.
She is survived by her father, Stephen Yoskovich Jr. of Medora; his partner, Tracy Hansen, and her sons, Joey and Corey Hansen, also of Medora; her brother, Tyler Lewis Jester of Southold; her grandmother, Ruth Yoskovich of Greenport; and many Lewis and Yoskovich aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Aug. 21 at Medora High School. Cremation followed.
