William R. Hagen Jr.

William R. (Billy) Hagen Jr. of Greenport died suddenly Oct. 3 at his home. He was 21 years old.

Born Nov. 22, 1991, he attended Greenport schools until moving to East Stroudsburg, Pa., in 2005. He graduated from East Stroudsburg High School in 2010. Mr. Hagen had worked at the Greenporter Hotel for one summer and at the Giant Food Store in Stroudsburg. He had recently moved back to Greenport and was starting to work at CVS in Mattituck.

Family members said Mr. Hagen had spirit and a compassion for others. He excelled in the hospitality field, they said, receiving awards from the State of Pennsylvania upon his high school graduation. He was also an organ donor in hopes of making a difference to those in need, they said.

Mr. Hagen is survived by his father and stepmother, William R. and Elizabeth Hagen of Greenport; his mother and stepfather, Karen and Mark Goldberg of East Stroudsburg; three sisters, Laura Hagen and Sarah and Leah Goldberg, all of East Stroudsburg; a stepsister, Brittany Gasiorowski of Conshohocken, Pa.; and his maternal grandparents, Al and Sue Stretz of Greenport.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Cremation was private.
