Mattituck loses 1-0 heartbreaker in double OT

The Mattituck boys soccer team travels to Diamond in the Pines in Coram this afternoon to face Carle Place in the Class B Long Island championship. The Tuckers are aiming for their their second straight Long Island title and third in the last four years.

The Tuckers advanced into today’s championship game with a resounding 5-1 victory Saturday over Center Moriches for the Suffolk County title. Kaan Ilgin scored three goals in Saturday’s win.

Mattituck will be facing the Nassau champion Carle Place Frogs, who defeated Wheatley, 3-2, for the Nassau title. Carle Place comes into the game unbeaten with one tie as its only blemish. The Frogs are ranked third in the state in Class B and the Tuckers are ranked fourth.

The winner of today’s game advances to Saturday’s regional finals against the winner from Section I/IX.
