Estelle O’Connell

Mattituck resident Estelle (Cookie) O’Connell died Nov. 14 at Cornell Medical Center/New York-Presbyterian Hospital. She was 90 years old.

She was born in Cutchogue Oct. 9, 1923, to Paul and Sophie Kaloski, one of eight children: Chet Koloski (deceased), Mike Kaloski, Francis Zelinski, Matthew Kaloski (deceased), Irene (Yippy) Sawastynowicz, Helen Long and Dorothy Mulhall.

She attended Rider College and worked for a union delegate, where she met and married Maurice O’Connell (deceased). She also worked as a secretary to the U.S. customs director at Kennedy Airport. A farmer’s daughter, she loved the outside and gardening. Retiring to Mattituck, she joined the Mattituck Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She leaves behind three children: Leslie (Joe) Esposito, Kathleen (Steve) Pritchard and Parnell O’Connell; three beloved grandchildren: Joseph, Stephen and Morgan Pritchard; and many nieces and nephews.

The family received visitors Nov. 18 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. A funeral Mass took place Nov. 19 at Our Lady of Ostrabama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Interment was at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery, also in Cutchogue.
