A Greenport man who allegedly attacked another man in a midnight street fight in Greenport last week, then continued the fight into a hospital emergency room is now facing felony assault charges, Southold Town police said.

Police say Hraklis Morris, 36, attacked a 24-year-old man — identified by police last week as Walter Arevalo of Shelter Island — with a knife in the Adams Street parking lot near the laundromat in Greenport early last Sunday. Both Mr. Morris and Mr. Arevalo were injured in the fight and were taken to Eastern Long Island hospital by friends, police said.

Mr. Morris then continued the fight in the emergency room about half an hour alter at 12:30 a.m., attacking Luis Mijangos, 33, of Southold.

While breaking up the fight, members of the hospital staff sustained minor injuries, police said. Police did not comment on the number of employees who were injured.

Mr. Arevalo was transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center due to the serious nature of his injuries, police said. An update on his condition was not immediately available. Mr. Morris and Mr. Mijangos, the two who fought in the emergency room, were treated at ELIH.

Mr. Morris was arrested Sunday morning at police headquarters and charged with two counts of assault, one for the knife attack and one for the fight in the emergency room, police said. Police said though hospital employees reported they were injured, no charges have been filed yet.

Mr. Morris was arraigned in Southold Justice Court Sunday morning and remanded without bail to the Suffolk County jail.
