Cops: Hit-and-run driver was drunk with two kids in car

A New York City man was arrested Wednesday afternoon when it was determined he left the scene of a crash in Southold while driving drunk with his two juvenile children in the car, Southold Town police said.

Christopher Niemeth, 44, of Manhattan failed several roadside sobriety tests shortly after 2 p.m. when he was stopped along Watersedge Way in Southold, police said. He was charged with DWI, two counts of aggravated DWI, Leandra’s Law violations and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

He is being held overnight for arraignment in Southold Town Justice Court, police said.
