Wintery weather could bring 2 to 4 inches of snow this weekend
A band of flurries could bring up to 4 inches of snow to the North Fork this weekend, according to local forecasts, though weather experts have not issued a local weather advisory.
The snow is expected to begin sometime between 7 and 10 a.m. Saturday morning before intensifying in the afternoon, said Joey Picca, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s station in Upton.
The heaviest snow will fall in the late evening before switching over to rain around 9 p.m., he said.
“It shouldn’t be freezing rain,” Mr. Picca said. “The [temperature] will be rising actually through the night.”
The storm should move through the area by daybreak, leaving 2 to 4 inches of snow, he said.
Western Suffolk and Nassau could be in line to get slightly more snow, possibly 3 to 5 inches, while a winter storm watch is in effect for further points west — northern New Jersey, the lower Hudson Valley, and southwest Connecticut — expecting to bring the area anywhere from 6 to 10 inches.
