Eugene F. Chituk

Lifelong Cutchogue resident Eugene F. Chituk passed away from cancer Dec. 24, 2013, at Eastern Long Island Hospital. He was 77.

Gene was born Feb. 24, 1936, to Antone and Josephine Chituk and married his sweetheart, Dotty Ficner, Sept. 24, 1961. They recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.
Gene was predeceased by his two brothers, Jon R. Chituk and Antone Chituk, and is survived by his wife, Dotty; his three children, Donna McGahan, Eugene Chituk and Diane Harned; his sister, Joan Domaleski; and two grandchildren, Ryan Harned and Brendan Chituk.

Gene was a graduate of Mattituck High School, a former member of the Cutchogue Fire Department and a communicant and collector at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church. He was a farmer and a master carpenter and later in life worked with his son’s company, Chituk Pools, Ltd., as a pool technician for over 20 years.

Gene loved spending time with his family and his dogs and was an avid NASCAR race fan. He was a collector of classic cars and a “Mr. Fix-it” who could repair anything. A kind, loving, easy-going North Forker, he enjoyed fishing, beaching and boating on Peconic Bay. Family members said, “We’ll always remember Gene as the husband, father and grandfather who relished life’s simplicity, whether it was mowing the lawn or walking his dogs. Always smiling and offering a positive word, Gene will be sorely missed.”

The family received friends Dec. 29 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 30 at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue, Father Stan Wadowski officiating. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery, also in Cutchogue.

Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
