Boys Basketball: Ice cold shooting costs First Settlers

Forward Caelan McCabe scored 16 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to lead Smithtown Christian to a 57-42 Suffolk County League VIII win over visiting Southold in a boys basketball game on Tuesday.

With the score tied at 5-5 midway through the first quarter, the hosts went on an 8-0 run and never relinquished the lead. The Knights extended their advantage to as many as 24 points in the final period.

Junior Liam Walker scored 24 points for the First Settlers (5-4, 4-3), who shot only 21.7 percent from the field on 13-of-60 accuracy. Ryan DiGregorio was next with 6 points.

Connor McCabe added 10 points for Smithtown Christian (4-3, 4-1).

Southold, which recorded a 57-47 victory over Bridgehampton on Monday, will try to bounce back against The Stony Brook School on the road on Thursday.
