Jane T. Taggart

Jane T. Taggart of Southold, 90, passed away Jan. 21, 2014. 

Born Oct. 26, 1923, to Samuel and Jane Hundt, she was raised in Jamaica Estates, where she attended The Mary Louis Academy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Claire Conlon.

Jane held a position at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company before marrying William S. Taggart, with whom she had four children, William Jr., Carol, John and Eileen.

A resident of Wantagh before retiring to Southold, Jane enjoyed spending time with her family and gardening and was an avid bowler for many years, serving as an officer of the ladies leagues. She enjoyed traveling; her last big trip, at age 75, was to Hawaii with her daughters and their families. With her cane, she hiked all around the volcano lava. She was also an avid and skilled card player; bridge and gin rummy were her favorites.

She is survived by her brother, William, and her children: Bill; Carol; John and his wife, Tricia, and their children, Richard, Peter and Matthew; and Eileen and her husband, Steve, and their son, Stephen.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold.
