Helen Victoria-Horton

Helen Victoria-Horton of Mattituck died Jan. 22, 2014, at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 86.

She was born Nov. 21, 1927, in New Suffolk to Edward and Mary (Kreskowski) Victoria. Growing up in New Suffolk, Helen loved the Great Peconic Bay. She spent her youth clamming, fishing, scalloping and frolicking on the beach with her brothers, sisters and neighborhood friends.

After her marriage to Byron Horton, she worked the family farm until retirement. More than anything, Helen loved her family. She always had a smile on her face and could crack a joke at a moment’s notice.

Helen was predeceased by her siblings, Stanley, John, Paul, Peter, Chester, Mary, Sophie and Stella. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Mary (Doug) Bogovich Sr. and Janet Stewart; her grandchildren, Doug (Dawn) Bogovich, John (Jessica) Stewart, Kathleen (Michael) DiSilvio and Ryan Bogovich; her great-grandchildren, Amber and Alex Bogovich and Raylan and Isla DiSilvio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, Jan. 26, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church, Father Stan Wadowski officiating. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.

Memorial donations to the Mattituck Fire Department Rescue Squad or the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
