Edith Sinnott Cullen Fenn of Mattituck passed away Jan. 22, 2014, at the age of 90.

Edith Sinnott Cullen Fenn

She was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Brooklyn to Francis J. and Marguerite (Babcock) Sinnott.

Edith graduated from The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica in 1941 and received her secretarial degree from Stratford Junior College in Danville, Va., in 1943. She married Paul T. Cullen June 15, 1946, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. They lived in Garden City and East Williston, where they raised their six children, until Paul’s death in 1974.

Edith’s highest priority in life was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her faith in God inspired everyone around her and guided her through life’s difficult times. Edith also worked part time as a secretary at St. Aidan School in Williston Park and St. Agnes High School in Rockville Centre and later was a full-time secretary in the social services department at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn.

She married Theodore C. Fenn in 1977. They lived in Manhasset for nine years, until Ted’s death in 1986.

Edith retired to Mattituck in 1987. There she loved to share with her family her happy memories of childhood summers, grow her beautiful flower garden and participate in local Audubon Society activities. Edith was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck, serving as an outreach volunteer and as a Eucharistic minister to the homebound.

Predeceased by her sister, Gloria F. Sinnott, and her brother Francis J. Sinnott Jr., Edith is survived by her brother the Rev. James P. Sinnott, MM, a Maryknoll missioner serving in Seoul, South Korea; six children, Christine (Paul) Wissert of East Meadow, Paul (Margaret) Cullen of Glen Head, Marguerite (Edmund) Giordano of Cutchogue, Peter (Lyuba) Cullen of Livingston, N.J., Irene (Robert) Hungerford of Chilmark, Mass., and Edith (Cameron) McAlpine of North East, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Gregory, Brian, Jeffrey, Elizabeth, Katherine, Daniel, Douglas, Joshua, Sarah and Stephanie; and four great-grandchildren, Megan, Jake, Abby and Caleb.

The family received visitors Jan. 24 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 25 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church. Interment took place at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
