Joseph G. Wyllie

Joseph G. Wyllie of East Marion died Jan. 29. He was 85. 

Joseph G. Wyllie

He was born July 26, 1928, in Boston to Richard T. and Mary Ellen (Dooney) Wyllie and graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science in history. He married Helen F. Feeney Nov. 4, 1950, at Holy Name of Mary R.C. Church in Valley Stream.

Mr. Wyllie served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 and, later, in the Fighting 69th infantry regiment of the Army National Guard. He received the Distinguished Service Cross for his military service. For 12 years he was chief executive officer of Joe Wyllie and Associates in Plainview.

Family members said he enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, singing, storytelling and spending time with family. He was also actively involved in St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport.

Predeceased by his son Kevin in 2009, Mr. Wyllie is survived by his wife, of East Marion; his son Michael, of Fort Lauderdale; his son David (Michele), of Babylon; his son Timothy (Helen), of Jenkintown, Pa.; his daughter, Mary Ellen, of Rocky Point; his son Christopher (Carole), of Centereach; his sister, Mary Singleton; his brother, Richard; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family received visitors Feb. 3 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral service took place Feb. 4 at St. Agnes R.C. Church, Father Tom Murray officiating. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
