Ellen B. Ball

Cutchogue resident Ellen B. Ball, formerly of Greenlawn, died Feb. 2, 2014, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. She was 79. 

Born April 5, 1934, in Brooklyn to Marion and James Russell Barrett, she graduated from Ursuline High School in 1952 and married Donald Ball May 25, 1957, in Larchmont, N.Y.

Ms. Ball worked as an administrative assistant for Hazeltine in Greenlawn, volunteered at Huntington Hospital and for Meals on Wheels in Huntington and was a supporter of St. Ignatius Retreat House in Manhasset. She was also a member of Nassau Farms Association, for which she and Donald hosted an annual event at their Cutchogue home. Locally, she was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Cutchogue, serving as a scheduled lector and Eucharistic minister. Family members said she was a devoted and loyal friend to many.

Ms. Ball is survived by her husband; her son, Donald Jr. (Kathleen) of California; her daughter Karen (Jack) Breen of Maryland; her daughter Jeanne (Joseph) Fox of Boston; and her daughter Mary Beth (Brian) Parlato of New Jersey; and 12 grandchildren, Donald III (Lauren), Christopher, Lauren, Matthew, Tracey, Joseph, Kate, Mally, Carly, Kristin, Kevin and Kayla.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
