As I write this, snow is falling and I have a huge smile on my face. I bet some of you are trying to figure out how to stop me from doing my snow dance. You’ll have to find a certain preschool teacher who taught my two youngest children to do a snow dance. Be careful out there!
We have lots to celebrate in the next two weeks. A belated birthday wish to Bob Boergesson, who celebrated with the groundhogs on Feb. 2. Trista Panetta blows out candles Feb. 8 and two Emilys do so on Feb. 9, when Emily Baumann turns 8 and Emily Perry turns 15. Corey Pontino and Scott DeSimone have birthdays on the 16th.
We also have two anniversaries: John and Judi Zaveski, married 50 years on Feb. 9, and Dan and Lois Manfredi on Feb. 12. Have a wonderful time celebrating.
Leah Baxendale, a junior at Southold High School, and the Lady Islanders, her women’s ice hockey team, beat Westchester in the state playdown game last weekend. She and her family will head to states in Albany in a couple of weeks. Congratulations!
A Have a Heart Dinner to benefit CAST will take place at Peconic Landing Saturday, Feb. 15, with seatings at 5 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children under 12. Dinner includes salad, lasagna, garlic bread, coffee and dessert. Seating is limited, so call 477-7717 for reservations.
Here’s a not-so-well-kept secret. There’s a wonderful place in Southold where you can find a good movie or book, use the Internet, borrow an e-reader and get the Sunday crossword puzzle for free. It’s staffed by a friendly group who will greet you and help with any of your needs. You need only be a Southold or Peconic resident to get a card to Southold Free Library, where all of this and more is available. Check them out. You’ll be happy you did, no matter what the temperature is outside.
Football season really went out with a whimper on one side and a roar on the other. In my house, we await the beginning of the NASCAR season. What will you watch now that football is over? Are you a hockey or basketball fan? Better yet, share the couch with family and friends and celebrate American pride watching the Olympics.
My next deadline is Sunday, Feb. 16. Feel free to send me your celebrations, news and coming events in advance. I’ll keep track of them for later use. Have a wonderful two weeks. I hope you enjoy every day.
