Longtime Southold and Mattituck firefighters honored by state

Nine firefighters, more than 500 years of service.

Longtime volunteers from the Mattituck and Southold Fire Departments’ fire police — with a whopping 519 years of combined experience — were honored by New York State for their efforts last month.

The North Fork Volunteer Fire Police Association, a joint organization of the North Fork fire departments, handed out the awards at their semi-annual meeting on Jan. 16.

From Southold Fire Department, Robert Boergesson of Southold with 50 years of service, John Pontino of Peconic with 52 years of service, William Park of Southold with 54 years of service, George Berry Sr. of Southold with 60 years of service and the department’s oldest member, Robert C Mallgraf of Southold NY with 60 years of service, were recognized.

Mattituck firefighters Alan C. Dickerson with 57 years of service, Carl Stelzer with 59 years of service, Barney Harris with 62 years of service and Walter R. Fraker with 65 years of service, all of Mattituck, were also commended.
