The Southold Town Board is expected to name the newest Board of Trustees member during its meeting Tuesday afternoon, officials said Friday.

The board will likely appoint a candidate who has already served on the Board of Trustees, considering the number of freshmen members on the board, Southold Supervisor Scott Russell has said.

Currently, the Board of Trustees has four members, instead of five, because Republican Bob Ghosio won his bid for Town Board in November and was sworn in January — leaving his seat on the town’s Board of Trustees open.

Whomever the board appoints as trustee is not guaranteed a spot on the board after 2014. A special election for the final year of the term will then be held in November, Republican Committee chairman Peter McGreevy previously told the Suffolk Times.

The Town Board’s public work session is scheduled for 9 a.m. in Town Hall, with the official meeting kicking off at 4:30 p.m.

At the work session, the board is expected to discuss affordable housing and the possibility of constructing sidewalks on Factory Avenue in Mattituck, according to the agenda.
