‘Significant’ snow storm may hit North Fork Sunday night
With the official start of spring less than a week away, the North Fork may be in for one more blast of snow Sunday night, weather forecasts predict.
Though predicted snow totals aren’t available yet, National Weather Service meteorologist Tim Morrin said the area could receive “a few to possibly several inches” by Monday morning.
“There’s definitely some developing signals that are leaning towards another snow event,” Mr. Morrin said.
According to current forecasts, a cold front will pass over Long Island Saturday night, setting up a frigid Sunday, he said. Meanwhile, a storm over Texas is expected to reach Virginia by Sunday night, reaching just north enough to bring snow to New York, Mr. Morrin said.
The snow should begin after dark on Sunday night and continue overnight, tapering off a little after daybreak and into the morning commute, he said.
“We’re very confident that it will be cold enough for snow,” he said.
The NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook ahead of the storm, warning of a potentially “significant” snowfall.
