Mattituck High School graduate Steve Ascher (’11) was honored for a second consecutive week as Pitcher of the Week for the State University of New York Athletic Conference.

A left-handed junior for SUNY Oneonta, Ascher threw a four-hit shutout Saturday against Kean University, leading the Red Dragons to an 8-0 win. Ascher struck out seven with one one walk while pitching a complete game. It was his second straight shutout.

Ascher was also honored as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Upstate Pitcher of the Week for a second consecutive week.

For the season, Ascher has thrown 17 scoreless innings and his team-leading ERA is 2.36. He has a 3-1 record through four starts. In 26 2/3 innings he’s struck out 39 while allowing only 18 hits. He’s currently among the Division III leaders in strikeouts per nine innings at 13.1.

As a senior at Mattituck in 2011, Ascher threw a one-hit shutout in the Class B Long Island championship to lead the Tuckers past Oyster Bay.
